One of the first corona auxiliary hospitals in Bavaria is being built in Dachau: The Hotel Select, formerly Tulip Inn between hardware store and fast food restaurant on Alten-Römerstrasse, is set up to care for Covid 19 patients. 120 to 180 people can be accommodated there.

District - When the corona pandemic peaks, beds in clinics can become scarce. That is why an auxiliary hospital is to be built in Dachau: in the Hotel Select, between Obi and Burger King on the Alte Römerstraße, formerly Tulip Inn Alp Style. It is one of the first auxiliary hospitals in Bavaria.

At the meeting last Wednesday, all experts from the pandemic coordination group urged the immediate establishment of the auxiliary hospital. Dr. Thomas Weiler, medical director in the area of the integrated control center, who coordinates the inpatient care in the districts of Dachau, Fürstenfeldbruck, Starnberg and Landsberg, also strongly recommended that these plans be pushed forward vigorously. District Administrator Stefan Löwl confirms that a request has been made to the Bavarian State Government to turn a hotel in the district into an auxiliary hospital. Upon request, Löwl confirms that the hospital approval for the operation of the auxiliary hospital in Dachau was received on Thursday evening and that the district office together with the rescue and aid organizations and the Helios Amperklinikum Dachau will immediately begin to implement the plans drawn up.

According to Löwl, it accommodates Covid-19 patients with moderate symptoms who do not need to be ventilated, but only have to be treated with oxygen and inhalation therapy. The clinic in Dachau could then concentrate on the intensive care patients who depend on respirators.

The makeshift hospitals will only be filled when the capacity of the regular hospitals is no longer sufficient to supply the increasing numbers of corona patients. Bavaria-wide are preparing themselves for this case. In Ebersberg an emergency clinic was opened in the triple gymnasium of the local secondary school, in Erding a makeshift hospital was built in a double hall on the air base. "Every district is currently doing this," says Löwl.

In the district of Dachau, however, they refrained from converting a gym into an emergency clinic. "My experts say that gyms are badly suited if they have uniform ventilation," explains Löwl. It is better to use the structures of hotels "that are suitable in principle", since there are electricity connections and the necessary sanitary infrastructure.

In the special purpose association, which is responsible for coordinating the rescue operations and for civil protection in the four districts with the ILS, "massive" plans have been made in the past few days for the establishment of a makeshift clinic. Several proposals were examined in the four district, on points such as logistics, accessibility, helicopter landing.

According to information from our newspaper, it is now certain that the Select Hotel, formerly Tulip Inn Alp Style, in Dachau-Ost on the Alte Römerstraße will be converted. Between 120 and 180 Covid-19 patients can be cared for here.
