Bad Tölz - It's been going back and forth for three years. Will the former first supermarket in Bad Tölz be demolished and completely rebuilt? The negotiations between the city of Bad Tölz and the company from Neckarsulm seemed to have been concluded six months ago. The new market was to be upgraded and space was also created for a large covered parking lot. The construction plans should be presented in 2019. Upon request, the "Kaufland Foundation & Co. KG" announced that they are now pursuing new plans.

"We decided to extensively modernize the existing building instead of a new building," writes Anna Münzing from the communications department of the Neckarsulm company. As a result, customers can be offered a modern and contemporary shopping center after a significantly shorter construction period. The Kaufland employees have already been informed of this. Likewise, the numerous specialist shops inside the market. Münzing reports that the company is currently coordinating the restructuring plans within the company and then wants to go to the city. That should happen in the spring. After these discussions, one can only make statements about the scope of the renovation.

“Giant bathtub” has long been off the table

The careful wording is not without reason. With regard to the development plan, which allows little height increase, “Kaufland” had presented a rather daring plan for a new building. Instead of building upwards, one would have gone downstairs and put the elevated supermarket in a concrete tub. A technically - and financially - extremely complex story. The base plate should have been attached and secured with 366 eight meter bored piles. The “giant bathtub”, as Second Mayor Andreas Wiedemann put it almost exactly two years ago, might have changed the flow of groundwater to the disadvantage of the neighbors. The Tölz construction committee unanimously rejected the project due to various concerns, which resulted in some atmospheric disturbances.

As a result, the city sought a compromise. "Kaufland is an important company for us," said Mayor Josef Janker. The new building would have been planned at the current level. The wall height would have been two meters higher. The building authority and also the city council had advocated a change in the development plan. Now there is no new building on the 1.4 hectare site where the "Krone Center" was opened in October 1972.

Mayor is satisfied

The head of the city, Janker, can live with the renovation that is now being sought. Another point is very important to him. "The traffic connection with a traffic light solution to Lenggrieser Strasse is not acceptable." The mayor is thinking of a roundabout. "There is no better solution." This would result in fewer traffic jams on the traffic axes and pedestrians would also have a safer crossing option. “Kaufland” had already signaled in the past that the traffic issue would be tackled and that areas for a roundabout would be assigned.
