The Corona crisis touches the hearts of many people: in order to keep the financial burden as low as possible, property owners in Murnau come to meet their tenants. Up to the waiver of the entire rent.

Murnau - Franz Schubert, managing director of the Karg brewery in Murnau, did not have to think long. "It was immediately clear to me that I would do it," he says in an interview with the Tagblatt. The 73-year-old and his daughter Victoria Schubert are lessors of well-known gastronomic establishments in and around the town, including the traditional Karg Bräustüberl restaurant and the Ähndl inn. Usually the bars are well attended, but at the moment there is low tide due to the Corona crisis. Since March 17, when the exit restriction was imposed in Bavaria, its tenants have not earned a cent, but would have to pay the rent in full if they received no support. This help was given to them: Schubert waived the rent for all his tenants - provisionally until the end of April. If the situation does not relax, but Corona continues to gain momentum and paralyze the gastronomy indefinitely, he can also imagine a longer period. "I'm thinking about it," says the Murnauer. "I want to do everything possible so that my tenants can survive economically in these difficult times and make ends meet," explains the prominent brewer. "It is a give and a take. We also benefit when the business is running and the tenants are doing well. ”

For Ninette Watzdorf, who has been the tenant of the Karg Bräustüberl for seven years, this not only means the urgently needed breather from an economic point of view - it is also a human touch. "This is a great signal, an expression of incredible appreciation and solidarity." Especially since Schubert himself approached it. "That made me extremely happy." She would like a similar sign from other landlords.

The couple Martina and Josef Steigenberger also own real estate in the market town - including the “Strickpunkt” shop, which is rented to a tenant. Martina Steigenberger wants to accommodate her tenants as much as possible and is currently exploring several options. One option is that they "pay for what is still possible". However, she could not afford to forego the rent entirely. "We have too many liabilities for that." Her husband works as an independent artisan and is severely affected by the economic crisis triggered by the virus.

Guntram Gattner, bookseller and chairman of the Murnau Economic Development Association, must continue to put his wallet in his purse, but has the option of staggering the rent and paying only half of it. "That is a slight relief." At the moment, as with most other bookstores, orders are placed by phone or via the Internet.
