Coronavirus: the economic aftermath for soccer clubs 2:48
(CNN Spanish) - The England Premier Soccer League will not see action as scheduled on April 30.
This was the decision that was made in a meeting between the representatives of the 20 Premier teams, the PFA (Football Association and the EFL (English Football League).
The tentative date of April 30 was the originally set deadline to cope with the covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.
Now the resumption of the championship will be done only when it is safe and appropriate, and the date for the return will be kept under continuous analysis.
Cut wages for footballers
At the meeting it was also agreed to consult the clubs on reducing the salary of footballers by up to 30%, due to the economic impact that the coronavirus crisis is having on soccer in that country.
This proposal comes after UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock asked footballers to cut wages for the common good.
