Johns Hopkins University has announced that the United States has recorded about 1,200 additional deaths from the Corona virus emerging in the past 24 hours in the worst daily toll recorded in any country.

The French Press Agency quoted the university as saying that 1961 deaths occurred between 8:30 pm local time on Wednesday and the same hour in the evening, Thursday, noting that the total number of deaths since the start of the epidemic in the United States is currently 5926 cases.

The university added that between Wednesday and Thursday the United States also counted more than 30,000 additional infections, raising the official number of recorded infections in the country to more than 243,000.

According to White House figures, it is expected that Coved 19 will kill between 100,000 and 240,000 people in the United States.

New York Mayor Bill de Palacio asked residents to cover their faces as they leave their homes in this hardest-hit city in the United States.

"It could be a scarf that you made at home as a handkerchief ... We do not want you to use the masks that emergency crews and health care providers need, as it is not certain that these medical masks will be available in sufficient quantities until the end of the epidemic," De Blasio said at a news conference.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, New York has recorded 1,562 deaths from the virus, according to figures released yesterday by city health officials, who also counted 49,707 cases.

The previous daily record of the number of deaths due to the virus was recorded on March 27 in Italy with 969 deaths, yet the total number of deaths in Italy, which is 13915 deaths, and Spain 10300 cases is still higher than the United States.
