"We are deeply saddened to announce that two passengers have died on board the Coral Princess," Princess Cruises, the company that owns the boat, said in a statement. The company announced earlier in the week that 12 positive cases of coronavirus had been diagnosed on the Coral Princess (seven passengers and five crew members).
The ship, which has 1,020 passengers and 878 crew members, arrived in the port of Miami on Saturday after trying unsuccessfully to dock in Fort Lauderdale, the city where two other cruise ships infected with coronavirus, Zaandam and Rotterdam, had taken refuge Thursday after long negotiations with local authorities. The disembarkation of Coral Princess passengers will take several days due to the limited number of flights available, said Princess Cruises, noting that passengers requiring urgent medical care will be given priority.
