From the next legislative period, two women from different generations will sit on the municipal council in Haimhausen for the ÜWG.

Haimhausen - In addition to the experienced Angelika Goldfuß, Christina Meckel takes a seat on one of the seats for the first time. "I am pleased that I made it to the local council right away," she says. The 38-year-old has only been a member of the non-partisan voters since 2018. And a year later, her colleagues elected her to be the new chair of the ÜWG.

In her closer family, she is the first to get involved in politics. However, with her mother-in-law Martina Meckel, she has someone with long experience in Haimhausen's local politics at her side.

Christina Meckel was born in Regensburg, but has lived in Munich from kindergarten until after her studies. "I was an absolute Munich child," she says. So Meckel thought that moving from the city to the village of Haimhausen was difficult. But the opposite was the case. "I cannot imagine that it could be different," says Meckel. Since 2012 she has been living in Haimhausen with her husband and two children.

The lawyer nevertheless found an important difference between Munich and Haimhausen. “When you come to a village from a big city, you notice the effects of political decisions much more,” she says. That was one of the reasons why she had taken the step into local politics. Because just complaining about decisions doesn't help. "If you can do something, then you should do something," says Meckel. In doing so, it seeks proximity to the citizens of the community. With Angelika Goldfuß, Christina Meckel is certain, she has the opportunity to "cover a wide range of the population". Goldfuß bring the experience, Meckel the ideas from a younger generation and the legal knowledge.

In the future, both want to work on flexible and affordable childcare and on the local development of the community. Meckel takes her new honorary position very seriously. "I'm excited about the new task with excitement, anticipation, ideas and commitment."
