Comment: Underground exchange of blows

2020-04-05T05:12:47.281Z

The election is over, the sharp tones continue, at least in the city council. Seldom has the panel been seen as divided as this week when it finally focused on the town hall tunnel. Hans Egger, group leader of Erding Jetzt, has overshot (once again) the goal in the heated debate. This is what editor-in-chief Hans Moritz says in his commentary on the weekend.

The election is over, the sharp tones continue, at least in the city council. Seldom has the panel been seen as divided as this week when it finally focused on the town hall tunnel. Hans Egger, group leader of Erding Jetzt, has overshot (once again) the goal in the heated debate.

It is not reprehensible to become smarter with new facts. Therefore, Egger cannot be accused of suddenly being against the tunnel, even though he voted twice for the connection under Landshuter Strasse in the decisive votes. His reference to impending tax shortfalls as a result of the Corona crisis is a strong argument, and a weaker argument on the negative attitude of many citizens.

But that he attacks the administration and assumes that it "hides costs again" or hides them in the household or deliberately makes false statements is not possible. It is also a declaration of bankruptcy of his own work. Because Egger advised the household and approved it. As a tax advisor, he should know for which numbers he has raised his hand.

The Eggers attack is the continuation of a sometimes rather dull election campaign that Erding Jetzt led. Comparing the individual groups with vegetables - such as the CSU with eggplants and the SPD with tomatoes - as was done in a Facebook video, may be funny, but is unworthy of a political group.

In the end, Egger, like all (!) Other city councilors (indirectly) approved the tunnel. That is why it is dishonest to accuse the CSU, free voters and the SPD of trying to push through the project, knowing that the tunnel is also politically underground for many Erdinger. At the meeting in question, the whole renovation of Landshuter Strasse was decided. The tunnel is only part of this package.

As a result, the Greens did not break the word with their yes. "We always said no when it came to the tunnel," explains fraction leader Helga Stieglmeier. That is the difference between steadfastness and populism.
