At the start of the holiday, the corona crisis also puts people to the test. A commentary by Christian Deutschländer, Head of Political Affairs at Merkur in Munich.
Deprivation of liberty hurts. The majority of us hadn't planned to try this out in our lives. But even now, with week three of the exit restrictions beginning, discipline is difficult. There are several factors gnawing at morality: the bright spring weather at the start of the holiday, growing longing for family and friends, social tensions in a confined space in apartments, and above all the numbers. The new infections, because they were delayed by two weeks, still show no success. The death numbers, even if that sounds cynical, are not yet so exorbitant that they cast a spell over the whole country.
Corona crisis: Shutdown previously worked on the basis of reason
So far, the shutdown in private space has mainly worked on the basis of reason, rarely with sanctions. That encourages. The weekend was exemplary. This week is sure to be put to the test. The out-reflex increases. In terms of calculations, it is very important these days whether our country can start up again in early May. New infections from now to mid-April, two weeks later, so if the exit strategy is to be discussed, jumps in the statistics.
Yes, it's all tedious. Bavaria is lucky to have acted as the first country, politics made only a few mistakes; but the bad luck of getting a particularly large number of infected homecomers from Austria and Italy. If you look very closely, you can guess an exit route: local mask requirements, gradual opening of the first branches, distance rules and bouncers in shops, gradual ramping up of the schools. That is the goal; the hardest section is still ahead of us.
