All of humanity is being tested by the unprecedented scale of the global coronavirus pandemic. It is precisely in the face of this challenge that Franco-German friendship must show its effectiveness, that Europe must prove its capacity for action. Today, first rapid actions are necessary, using as much as possible the instruments that are at our disposal to respond to the emergency and give a signal of solidarity.
We can and must thus mobilize and extend with all the flexibility required the European budget, the multiannual financial framework (MFF) as well as all the structural, regional and social funds; the European Investment Bank; and the European Stability Mechanism (ESM). Debt rules, both national and European, were also temporarily suspended during this crisis.
