In a fatal head-on collision on a forest stretch near Krailling, a 63-year-old man from Pentenried lost his life on Saturday. While the cause of the accident from Germering was fighting for his life in a clinic, the search for the cause of the accident puzzled the investigators.

Krailling - It was an accident like a big bang out of the blue. On this sunny Saturday afternoon, around 2.30 p.m., a 56-year-old Gemeringer drove the Neue Gautinger Strasse northwards from Pentenrieder Strasse towards Germering with his white VW van. A 63-year-old from Pentenrieder approached his black VW Touran from the opposite direction. The vehicles met at the level of the tank farm, about 300 meters from the Germeringen border.

According to the police, the VW transporter swerved into the oncoming lane just before the encounter. The Pentenrieder could no longer react and the vehicles collided head-on with great force. As a result of the impact, they were thrown sideways and, heavily damaged, remained on the side of the vehicle.

According to the police, the man from Pentenried suffered "immediately fatal injuries" in the collision. The rescue helicopter brought the transporter driver seriously injured to the hospital for treatment.

For the 75 rescuers, it was a psychologically and physically stressful task. The fire departments from Krailling (head of operations: Vice Commandant Michael Weigert), Gauting and Unterpfaffenhofen, Percha and Oberpfaffenhofen were also involved, as was the Starnberg district fire inspection. In addition to the ADAC rescue helicopter, the police helicopter squadron was also used to take overview pictures of the scene of the accident. The street was closed from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. for accident recording.

Why the man from Germering suddenly swerved into the oncoming lane was initially puzzling. At the time of the accident there was dry, sunny weather, the best view and little traffic on the straight line through the forest. A medical problem is one of the possible causes. The public prosecutor ordered the body and both vehicles to be seized, blood to be taken from both drivers and an accident analysis report.
