Berlin (dpa) - At Deutsche Bahn, 82.4 percent of all long-distance trains arrived on time in March. That was 4.1 percentage points more than in March of the previous year and 3.1 points more than in February, as the federally-owned group announced.

However, due to the Corona crisis, the number of passengers and the frequency of trains were significantly lower than usual. An important reason for delays - the passengers getting on and off at full platforms - was thus eliminated.

The railway did not provide any information on the exact capacity utilization. However, only around three quarters of the long-distance trains were in use at the beginning of April, said a spokesman.

A train is considered delayed if it arrives at the destination six minutes or more after the scheduled time. For the current year, the group wants to achieve a punctuality rate of 78 percent. In the past year, when the group narrowly missed its target of 76.5 percent at the time, punctuality improved significantly in January. Around 84.3 percent of the trains arrived on time at the start of the year. In February, several storm lows then pushed the rate to just under 80 percent.
