Update from April 4, 2020: After an employee of a Munich company reported about layoffs as a result of the Corona crisis , the company, the fitness equipment manufacturer EGYM , commented on the allegations. But not in response to the opinion requested by our editorial team.
The reason for this was the rating of an anonymous employee on the employer rating platform "Kununu", which the company called "inhuman". In the evaluation, the employee EGYM complains that the corona pandemic would be “a feast for mass layoffs” in order to “hire cheap employees later”. According to the allegations, the company would continue to generate sales as usual, but would nevertheless quit around percent of the workforce. "Workers with families and children were fired, people with sick people in the family and much more was ignored," the employee continues. It is not known whether this is the same employee (see initial notification) or a different employee.
The Munich company then responded to the allegations. "We respect your feedback and while such decisions are always extremely difficult to make, they are a direct result of the unprecedented pandemic and its impact on the global economy," wrote one representative. The decision was made to secure the remaining jobs and to focus on customer service and “operational and technological excellence”. The representative also thanked for a few aspects such as the cohesion among colleagues, which the employee had awarded three out of five stars.
