The diesel scandal was exposed at Volkswagen almost five years ago. Hundreds of thousands of car owners are now to receive compensation. Depending on the model and age of the car, between 1350 and 6257 euros should flow.
Wolfsburg / Hanover (dpa) - The interest in a quick comparison with Volkswagen in the diesel scandal is still great for many participants in the model lawsuit.
So far, 231,000 of the 262,000 eligible customers have registered with Volkswagen, just under every fifth case has already been checked, said a VW spokesman. The "Tagesspiegel" had previously reported about it.
The review is expected to be completed by April 20. First compensation from the laboriously won out-of-court settlement between VW and the Federal Association of Consumer Centers (vzbv) should flow from May 5. Depending on the model and age of the diesel car, Volkswagen plans to pay between 1,350 and 6,257 euros. The possible total compensation amount is estimated at 830 million euros.
In September 2015, after tests by authorities and research by researchers in the United States, Volkswagen admitted manipulations of the exhaust gas values of diesel cars. The software of certain engines was set so that in actual operation on the road significantly more toxic nitrogen oxides (NOx) were emitted than in tests.
