2020-04-05T13:57:46.841Z

Two Fijian rugby players were arrested for violating the rules of confinement, behavior described as "irresponsible" by the Prime Minister and the local federation and which will be reported to the governing body of world rugby.

The two men, whose identities have not been released, are professional players from these South Pacific islands, according to the Fiji Rugby Federation. These are international players, media said. Simon Raiwalui, former captain of the XV of Fiji, today in the coaching of the selection, condemned this attitude. "For those who have chosen not to comply with the 14 days of compulsory isolation, shame on you, the day of your judgment will come," wrote the general manager responsible for high performance on his Facebook page.

Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama accused the rugby players of "endangering all of Fiji". He said that one of the two players escaped from the Fiji hospital where he was quarantined on his return from Singapore because he posed "a high risk of exposure" to the new coronavirus. "Unfortunately for him, he could not escape the Fijian police force. He has been arrested and is in solitary confinement at the Nadi city hospital, "said Bainimarama. Fiji Rugby Federation chief executive John O'Connor said the latter would take "appropriate disciplinary action against these professional rugby players and report their extremely irresponsible behavior to their clubs and to the international federation, World Rugby" .`

The wrath of Simon Raiwalui

"The Fijian rugby family officially want to express their great disappointment at the irresponsible attitude of these two players who endanger their families and other Fijians," he said. "Such irresponsible behavior is completely unacceptable, and we support the action of the police (...) and any other measure taken against them," added Mr. O'Connor.

"When you continue to shake hands, continue to get together in groups, when you choose to stay outside after the curfew or when you leave the hotel where you are placed in isolation to go home, you" pee "About the sacrifices that frontline workers make and you put everyone at risk in Fiji," Raiwalui insisted. "Keep a low profile and follow the movement before it is too late," concluded the former Saracens and Racing 92 player.
