The use of sterilizers and cleaning materials has become a necessity in people's lives at the present time to deal with the emerging corona virus and eliminate viruses of all kinds, but the exaggeration of using them carries a lot of damage to skin health, according to the head of the dermatology department at the Damascus Hospital, "the diligent" Dr. Hoda Al-Aseel.

And Dr. Al-Aseel stated in a statement to Sana that the exaggerated use of these substances has side effects in the skin ranging from dehydration, itching, irritation and redness of the skin, and may reach dermatitis or so-called "eczema", and the skin may develop first degree burns.

Detergents and sterilizers, according to Dr. Al-Aseel, include many types, from soaps containing alkaline materials and sometimes some acidic substances to bacteriosteroids and viruses, some of which are antiseptic only and not sterile, indicating that these substances ruin the horny layer and alter the nature of the natural acidic skin that protects the hands Physiologically, as the alkaline substances in the soap lead to damage to the skin layers.

And Dr. Al-Aseel showed that excessive use of cleaning and sterilization materials causes a change in the composition of the natural skin flora, which are naturally occurring bacteria on human skin, and their settlement in it protects it from other pathogens, thus eliminating them gives the opposite effect and the skin becomes more susceptible to germs and viruses and the damaged skin enhances susceptibility to infection Therefore, hand sanitizer should be used reasonably and only used when necessary.

To prevent side effects from sterilizers, Dr. Al-Aseel advised to replace sterilizers with soap and water inside the house, especially the soapy oils to protect hands from drying and drying hands well after finishing washing them and using refreshments after washing hands and drying them before bed, warning against washing hands with hot water because it increases dry skin and the use of warm water Instead.

Dr. Al-Aseel pointed out that the use of alcohol-free hand sanitizers is safer on the skin than sterilizers with soft and soft materials, noting that people with skin infections and eczema are the most vulnerable to the risks of using sterilization materials, so they should stay away from them and use cotton gloves and wear them under the rubber gloves in In case of using sterilizers and cleaning materials, they should be replaced every 3 hours.
