A 5-year-old girl was seriously injured Saturday afternoon in Chanteloup-les-Vignes, following a checkup after a rodeo.

A 5-year-old girl was seriously injured Saturday afternoon in Chanteloup-les-Vignes (Yvelines) at the same time as young people clashed with the police, in the sensitive district of La Noé, according to concordant sources quoted by AFP .

The little girl was injured in the head by an unidentified projectile and had to be urgently transferred to the Necker hospital in Paris. She was operated on the night of Saturday to Sunday and remains under surveillance.

According to her mother, it was a shot from a defense ball launcher (LBD) that injured the little girl but for the moment, " we cannot link her injury to scuffles ", assured Versailles prosecutor Maryvonne Caillibotte. " The only certainty is that it took place in a concomitant time ," she added.

An investigation was opened and entrusted to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) to determine the conditions of use of the defense weapons of the police.

Biker control

The police intervened late Saturday afternoon in Chanteloup-les-Vignes to control a biker driving on a vehicle reported as stolen, police sources said, confirming information from the Parisian.

While the man was being arrested, " around fifty individuals " attacked the police, said the prosecution. The young people started to throw various projectiles and the police responded with LBD shots and tear gas canisters.

Two police officers were hit and slightly injured by projectiles. Around 6:30 p.m., the officials managed to get out with the biker arrested, but were unable to seize his vehicle. According to the prosecution, it could not be established that it had been stolen.

Later that night, a dozen vehicles burned in the La Noé neighborhood.

"The shortcut" between the little girl's injury and a LBD shot "is a little too fast," said the secretary of the Alliance union in the Yvelines, Julien Le Cam. "We have zero elements," he insisted. He claims that the police were lured into an " ambush " and denounces " those areas where confinement is not respected at all, where there is a feeling of impunity ".

"These behaviors are particularly irresponsible on the part of people who think that nothing can reach them," added Maryvonne Caillibotte.
