(CNN) - The BP company is offering a 50-cent discount per gallon of fuel for first responders and healthcare workers the next time their tanks are filled at BP or Amoco service stations in the United States.

"Thank you for being on the front line and keeping our communities healthy and safe," said BP on its website. "We are honored to support them and help them get where they need to go."

To obtain the discount, first responders and healthcare workers can visit bp.com/localheroes. They will be asked to verify their identity through the ID.me website and then receive a discount code by text message or email that they can enter at service stations.

Discount codes will be offered until April 30 or until a "maximum value of one million dollars in cents per gallon of discount is reached," BP said. There is a limit of 2 discount codes per user and the codes expire on June 30.

The oil and gas company is one of many that offers free meals, shoes, and other discounts to life-threatening medical workers to treat people during the coronavirus pandemic.
