The lake and the mountains as a backdrop: Getting married on Lake Tegernsee is very trendy. But the Corona crisis is slowing down couples in love and registry offices.

Tegernsee Valley - For Irmgard Amler and her colleagues from the registry office Tegernsee, spring usually means high season: Numerous local and foreign couples want to close the knot in the tranquil places around the lake. Example: In 2017 there were almost 700 couples who made the wedding vows here.

If you want to get an appointment, you have to take care of it early. Now the dream of a picture book wedding at Tegernsee has temporarily burst for many couples: If possible, the central registry office in Tegernsee - also responsible for all other registry offices around the lake and in Waakirchen - postponed the wedding ceremonies to the time after the exit restriction, reports head Amler. Some "urgently needed" weddings were brought forward quickly. According to Amler, eight marriages were held in Tegernsee alone on the Friday before the regulation was enacted. "Only one couple came with groomsmen, everyone else was there alone," says the registrar.

Weddings - if they take place - are currently under extraordinary circumstances: registrars, newlyweds, groomsmen - that's it, more people are not allowed in the marriage room in times of the Corona crisis. "It was very touching at times," says Amler of the intimate ceremonies. Mayor Johannes Hagn, who had his last wedding on Thursday before the exit restriction came into force, also found it "strange to sit in an empty wedding room with the newlyweds". It's just not what you usually imagine a wedding to be. "But we tried to make the best of it," reports Hagn. The mood at the wedding ceremonies in small format was good.

Not even a handful of weddings are yet to come during the Easter holidays in the Tegernsee valley. These are weddings that have a valid reason, as registrar Amler explains. In one case, for example, the woman was very pregnant. The father may only be present at birth if the couple is married or the partner acknowledges paternity.

How things will continue after the Easter holidays, whether Bavaria will then loosen or completely lift the exit restriction, is also completely unclear for Amler and her colleagues in the Tegernsee town hall. "We are currently thinking from day to day," says the head of the office. It is already clear, however, that the registry office is pushing a “bow wave” on wedding appointments due to the corona-related shifts. Hagn announced that he would like to make all available employees available for the wedding ceremonies after the crisis. He hopes to be able to offer the couples weddings again soon that are worthy of the best day of life. Because: "Normally you can't say: Next time I'll do it differently," says the mayor with a wink.
