Ocean Park said that since the end of March, Yingying began to spend more time splashing, and Lele left scent marks and sniffed Yingying in its habitat. The related behaviors are generally the same as giant pandas once a year in March. The estrous period between May and May coincided with the change in the level of surplus hormones. Therefore, the park ’s veterinary and nursing team confirmed that the two giant pandas have entered this year ’s breeding period and closely observed the changes in the body and behavior of the two giant pandas. And give them a natural mating opportunity during the peak estrus this morning.

Ocean Park Animal and Conservation Executive Director Michael Boos said that male and female pandas started sexual maturity at the age of 7 and 5, respectively, Yingying and Lele came to Hong Kong in 2007, and then began to try natural mating in 2011, but never succeeded. He added that after years of experimentation and learning, they successfully mate naturally at the end of the year, making them extremely excited.

Michael Boos explained that the chance of conception of natural mating is higher than artificial insemination. Pregnancy signs such as successful pregnancy, hormonal levels and behavior changes are expected to appear as early as late June this year, but these signs may also be caused by false pregnancy. He hopes that this year will bring good news to the Hong Kong people for the giant panda "Ting Ding" and contribute to the conservation of the panda, a vulnerable species.

Ocean Park said that the park and the experts of the China Giant Panda Conservation Research Center have been working closely together, which successfully reflects the long-term friendly cooperation between the two sides. The park will closely monitor Yingying's hormonal levels and behavior changes, and provide the latest news to the public in due course. The panda's pregnancy period ranges from 72 to 324 days. Only 14 to 17 days before the birth of the fetus, it can be confirmed by ultrasound inspection whether the panda is really pregnant.
