15 clubs had announced their arrival, 1400 people would have taken the beer tent: For months the Trachtenverein d'Oberlandler Neukirchen had been looking forward to the 115th anniversary from April 30th to May 4th. Now the cancellation followed.
Neukirchen - Now the last hope is gone. The board unanimously agreed to the inevitable of the corona crisis. "With a heavy heart we canceled everything," says Chairman Leonhard Zinsbacher. After consultation with the district office, the cancellation deadline had not been exhausted until April 15. "An event with 1000 people, we could have forgotten that in any case." Then better a final line.
At least a happy bed wedding was celebrated
The preparations were long over three weeks before the festival. "Everything was in a dry cloth," says Zinsbacher with a sigh, "but what do you want to do?" The advertising drum was stirred last year, among other things with a funny photo shoot. "It was fun," says the chairman. And at least you could celebrate a nice bed wedding.
Neukirchen will have to do without a maypole in 2020
The cancellation also affects the raising of the maypole, which would have been integrated into the festival. Traditionally on Thomastag shortly before Christmas, the 30-meter-long trunk had been cut and was prepared in the forest. The great career as a symbol of the village has burst. "Now it becomes lumber," says Zinsbacher.
Since the old maypole had already been cut, Neukirchen is facing a maypole-free year. Parts of the old maypole, according to the plan, could have been admired as a bar at the anniversary party. "Maybe it'll work out for the next wine festival."
A postponement of the festival in the current year is out of the question. "We hope that our neighboring club Parsberg can celebrate its 100th anniversary at the end of August, and we will move there more and more", announced the Neukirchner board.
In 2021 there will be other anniversaries in the area that you don't want to stand in the way, including the 125-year-old from the Lindlverein, the 150-year-old from the Weyarner fire brigade and the Gaufest in Valley. Maybe you will make up for your own anniversary in Neukirchen in five years. "Everything would have fit so well this year," says Zinsbacher.
Can the anniversary take place on May 10th?
The head of the traditional costume assured that there was no major financial damage, but another loss was far more serious. "For me there is nothing better than a traditional costume festival where you know almost everyone and like to get to know people you don't know yet." Now you hope to be able to gather at least for the anniversary on May 10th. "Perhaps as a thank you that we survived the whole misery," says Zinsbacher.
