A total of 133 new deaths caused by the disease in the past 24 hours have been recorded in the country, said Kianouche Jahanpour, spokesman for the Ministry of Health. This brings the death toll of the pandemic in Iran, the country by far most affected by the scourge in the Near and Middle East, to 3,872 dead.
According to Kianouch Jahanpour, 2,089 new cases of contamination were confirmed between Monday and Tuesday. This indicator is at its lowest since the peak of 3111 daily cases reached on March 31. Since the recognition of the first cases of infection by the virus in February, Iran has declared 62,589 confirmed cases of patients with Covid-19.
Abroad, some suspect Iranian official figures to be underestimated.
