KPMG released a new survey today (7th) and found that 50% of the respondents expected that the science and technology industry will hire more staff this year, but four adults expect the consumer market to reduce staffing. Shi Lixin, head of KPMG China's personal services, said that the investigation was conducted before the new year or that it did not reflect the immediate impact of the epidemic. But it believes that the demand for scientific and technological personnel from all walks of life will increase. For the epidemic situation, he also suggested that the company should develop a business continuity plan.

The survey was conducted from December last year to early January this year, interviewing 569 business executives, 80% of them were department heads or management positions, and 497 were working in Hong Kong. The survey found that 52% of the respondents expect the hiring industry to increase their employment intentions, an increase of 8 percentage points from 44% last year; the demand for manpower in the financial, professional and public service industries has remained stable. However, 41% and 27% of the respondents respectively expect that the consumer market and real estate industry will reduce manpower.

As for salary adjustment, 20% of the respondents did not raise their salary last year, and 44% of the respondents received a salary increase of 3 to 5%. In addition, 71% of the respondents expected that the salary could be increased by 20% or more, but only 32% of them received the above salary increase.

Shi Lixin, partner of KPMG China's personal services, said that the investigation was conducted before the new year and mainly reflected the impact of trade wars and social events, and may not be immediately reflected in the epidemic. He expects that in the epidemic, the demand for scientific and technological personnel will increase. Xu Xiuzhi, director of KPMG China's executive recruitment service, also said that the results are similar to the latest unemployment rate announced by the government, with individual industries such as services and real estate having greater impact.

Shi Lixin bluntly said that under the influence of the epidemic, many enterprises have changed their work models, including making good use of online platforms, and the situation in some industries such as the service industry will be more severe. He suggested that human resources professionals should be able to ensure that employees of the company can effectively perform their duties during extraordinary times and have a business continuity plan.
