RATP, SNCF: finally masks for all agents?

2020-04-07T18:48:30.296Z

The Ile-de-France region wants all agents of public networks to be equipped with it. RATP has just given its green light and its exem

Will the movement initiated by RATP be followed? As we announced in the middle of the day on Tuesday, the Régie has decided to equip its maintenance and network agents with two protective masks daily. The management of the company which until then refused to respond favorably to the repeated requests of the unions ended up receiving the green light from the health authorities.

To justify its change in policy, the RATP took shelter behind an opinion from occupational medicine which now advocates a general wearing of a mask. Its stock requisitioned by the state for caregivers at first has since been brought back to life.

100,000 masks for Transdev drivers

Will the example of the RATP spill over into any other public transport network in the Paris region. This is the wish of Valérie Pécresse, president of Ile-de-France Mobilités, the transport operator of the region. From Wednesday according to our information, its teams will proceed to the distribution of 100,000 masks to the agents who operate in the bus networks in the outer suburbs (Transdev, Optile, RATP Dev and Keolis). At Transdev, where an employee died on Friday of the Covid-19.

This delivery, which comes after a premiere by the municipality, should help reduce the tension. "Without transport, the region does not work," alarmed Valérie Pécresse on Monday.

SNCF ready to change its current system

In a context of scarcity, the State wanted to reserve masks above all for carers. Despite the increasingly insistent pressure in recent days from the Ile-de-France region to be treated as a priority region, he did not give in. The situation seems to have changed and the green light given to the RATP indicates this.

For the moment, the SNCF announced on Tuesday that it continued "to follow with extreme attention the evolution of the recommendations of the authorities on the subject, and therefore to change its current device which already provides masks for certain personnel" .

If the state is unable to provide the necessary masks, the region says it is ready to do so. To do this, it can rely on its order for 30 million units, 6 of which have already been half distributed to nursing staff and nursing homes.
