The Würmtal table is planning a new start. The corona pandemic caused the facility to close. However, there are still people in need.
Würmtal - Petra Schaber and her colleagues from the Würmtal table are working on a solution so that they can continue to provide their customers with food donations. Schaber wants to set up a food voucher system. And for that she asks for donations. "We can't do that with the money we have now," says the Count Finger. How often, in what amount and where the vouchers should be distributed is currently being worked out in cooperation with the Würmtal Island. One thing is certain: "Those who are registered with us should be provided." 140 names are currently on their list. But Schaber expects that there will now increasingly be people who are dependent on food donations. Short-time work and unemployment will leave their mark. "We are prepared for this," she says. "That is why we are here."
Age-related helpers belong to the risk group
The only problem is that the supermarkets currently have little to sell and the 35 helpers at the Würmtal table are over 65 years old, so they belong to the risk group and therefore cannot do their job as usual.
Many indications have been received from the population as to how one could support the needy. "You can think about gift fences," says Petra Schaber. But she and her colleagues believe that this does not make sense. It is questionable whether there are things in the bags that people hang on a fence that the needy can really need. Someone also offered her a truck, but due to a lack of goods and staff, Schaber also had to refuse this offer.
Petra Schaber would like to start again with the usual edition on April 22nd. But whether that succeeds depends on the course of the pandemic. Schaber is certain that there will not be enough food donations until then. There are two reasons for calling for donations: The money is either used to buy vouchers or, when normal operations can be resumed, to buy food.
