The official death toll from the Corona virus in Iran crossed the 4,000 threshold on Wednesday and now stands at 4,003, after 131 died in the Islamic Republic.

The number of people infected with the virus now stands at 67,286, an increase of 4,697 confirmed patients since yesterday, state health authorities reported. It has also been reported that 27,162 people have so far recovered from the virus in Iran.

The official numbers in which Tehran is poignant have been questioned in the past by Iranian opposition sources, who say in their polls that the number of dead in the country is four times greater than those reported by the government, and by professional bodies such as the World Health Organization. Dr. Rick Brennan, director of the World Health Organization's emergency services, claimed last month, after a visit to Iran, that the number of people infected and dead as a result of the country's corona virus is five times higher than the official figure provided by the government.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani today attacked the United States in a speech quoted in the country's media, accusing her of committing "health crime" against Iran, for refusing to lift economic sanctions over Tehran.

Rouhani also addressed Iran's request from the World Monetary Fund for $ 5 billion to deal with the country's corona crisis, arguing that the bank is expected to approve it. The United States has made efforts in the past to prevent the IMF from transferring funds to the state.
