(CNN Spanish) - The Minister of Health of Ecuador, Juan Carlos Zevallos, reported on Tuesday at a press conference that an official of the entity was dismissed because he would have requested money, in the midst of the health emergency, from relatives of those who died in Guayaquil to deliver the bodies of their loved ones.
The minister did not indicate the position or the name of the removed official.
According to Zevallos, this “bad element” was taking advantage of the crisis in a hospital center, whose name he did not specify in his statement, either.
In an annoyed tone, Zevallos said that it seems “inconceivable” to him that, in the midst of a crisis, an official of the Ministry of Health had incurred in that act to profit from the pain of the families.
"It is shameful, outrageous and intolerable," added the minister.
Finally, he explained that the official has already been denounced and that he hopes that justice will take over and that this fact does not go unpunished.
