A spatial challenge in the midst of quarantine by covid-19 0:33

(CNN) - After a few weeks of quarantine for the coronavirus, your home and backyard, and even your neighborhood, may feel a little smaller than before, especially if you have children.

So it is time to look up at the sky.

Scientists at NASA and the National Laboratory of the International Space Station do not want your children to be left behind because they are missing excursions to the local science museum, planetarium and other activities that may awaken a love of science, technology , engineering or mathematics (STEM subjects).

NASA's ten ideas for space-related things you can do at home are just the beginning of activities for children and families to enjoy.

Be specific based on what your child is already learning in the classroom with NASA's kindergarten through fourth grade, fifth through eighth grade, and ninth through twelfth grade guides. These guides include hands-on activities and experiments, things you can do at home, with night sky information sources, videos, and more.

The Space Foundation's Virtual Discovery Center shares video lessons and challenges, and both NASA and the US National Laboratory website. USA of the Space Station have dedicated centers to explore.

So even if your kids are home in the near future, they can still enjoy some out-of-this-world adventures together.

And who knows, you can also learn something, develop a passion for space and science, and even participate in a citizen science project that needs your help.

Here is a sample of the experiences that you and your children can enjoy.

Activities

Build a rocket! In fact, build a straw rocket if you're concerned about safety with this simple experiment.

This week was the biggest supermoon of the year, but the next one happens in May. Get ready by making your own calendar and moon phase calculator with the help of NASA.

Train to be an astronaut with the Explorers organization of the National Laboratory and the Space Station. Design a crew mission patch, learn about rocket engineering, how to go spacewalking, and even design your own space station.

Choose the next plant that will live and grow on the Space Station during the ExoLab Biological Design Challenge.

Conduct experiments at home and compare them to experiments done on the Space Station, including growing your own "alien head," with activities organized by the DreamUp organization.

Contribute to ongoing experiments on the Space Station by viewing photos and videos, and share your findings with scientists through Orion's Quest. Or just enjoy the beautiful photos that astronauts take from their unique point of view of Earth through Windows to Earth.

Explore

Track the Space Station as it orbits Earth, and even request that a photo of your home or school be taken from space through Sally Ride EarthKAM on the Space Station.

Tour and explore our solar system, and then go further to visit exoplanets at NASA's Exoplanet Travel Bureau. You can also download and print great exoplanet posters and coloring pages for the places you "visit."

Take a virtual tour if you're feeling a little adventurous. NASA has everything from tours of the Space Station and its research facilities to the Hubble Space Telescope and its SOFIA observatory.

NASA Kids Club offers fun but educational games that allow your kids to drive a space exploration vehicle on Mars and prepare to be an astronaut.

Listens

NASA is sharing e-books for your favorite bookworm to study their areas of interest, from the Hubble discoveries to the secrets of aeronautics and space flight.

Pull up a Story Time from Space chair as astronauts read children's science and space books from the Space Station. NASA astronauts are also reading stories and sharing videos on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

If you're looking for ways to learn without being on screen all the time, NASA also has several podcasts that share the latest news, science and technology.
