Bugatti Chiron engine on the wrist

2020-04-09T13:42:48.778Z

To mark its collaboration with the legendary brand of hypercars, Jacob & Co has a miniature 16-valve engine beat in a watch.

Last year, Bugatti had chosen to change the watchmaking team. Goodbye Parmigiani Fleurier, make way for Jacob & Co. It was at the Baselworld trade fair, with the world's most expensive car, the Black Car offered at 16.7 million euros, that the watchmaker and jeweler New Yorkers announced this new partnership. "When I admire a Bugatti Chiron, the perfection of engineering is so powerful that the car seems to move even when it is stopped," explained Jacob Arabo, founder of the brand.

After a Twin Turbo Furious Bugatti Edition and a limited edition Epic X Chrono, this year is the place for an exceptional timepiece: a Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon. The starting point for reflection by the watchmakers of the house: how to reproduce in a watch the visceral sensation of a 16-cylinder Bugatti engine? While the case is inspired by the lines of the Chiron, the movement here is a real watchmaking engine block of 578 components, visible from every angle within an imposing black titanium case (54 mm x 44 mm).

Press the push button on the right, the engine starts and the animation starts, the pistons start to move, according to the same principle as the “Oil pump” presented in May 2019 by the brand. Like a racing car, the watch mechanism decorated with two Turbos on the sides is here supported by four shock absorbers. The central crown in black DLC titanium at the bottom of the case ensures both reassembly of the mechanism (clockwise) and that of the 16-cylinder engine (counterclockwise). At 9 o'clock, you will find the fuel gauge, sorry the power reserve indication of the watch, which culminates at 60 hours on this manual-winding model. Creation Jacob & Co obliges, there is also a flying tourbillon inclined at 30 degrees whose opening takes the iconic horseshoe shape of the Bugatti calenders. Count 260,000 euros to treat yourself to this limited edition watch hypercar, with the engine compartment stamped with the initials EB. While waiting to take a day, who knows, driving a Chiron?
