Former US President Jimmy Carter criticized President Donald Trump's decision to suspend his country's contributions to the World Health Organization.
"I am sad about the decision to stop funding the World Health Organization, while there is an urgent need for funding, especially in light of the outbreak of a global pandemic," Carter said in a statement quoted by the Carter Center today.
Carter added that WHO is the only international organization capable of leading efforts to contain the virus.
Trump's decision has faced widespread criticism from many countries, including Russia, and US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi criticized it, saying the decision was irrational and dangerous.
