If you do not pay attention to good hygiene, you can easily catch the corona virus while shopping. We tell you how to protect yourself from Sars-CoV-2 in the supermarket.

If you do not pay attention to good hygiene, you can easily catch the corona virus while shopping. We tell you how to protect yourself from Sars-CoV-2 in the supermarket.

  • Because of the corona virus , supermarkets have to observe strict hygiene regulations .
  • But customers can also protect themselves by avoiding mistakes.
  • We tell you what to look out for when shopping during the Covid 19 pandemic .

Dortmund - Because of the coronavirus pandemic *, supermarkets currently have to observe important hygiene regulations and comply with legal requirements. But what about self-protection? When shopping , you can also make mistakes that should be avoided due to the risk of infection , reports RUHR24.de *.

Corona virus: Shopping under strict hygiene and safety regulations

In recent weeks, measures to protect against infections in German supermarkets have become increasingly stringent. In the meantime, you can only enter shops with a shopping cart, keep a safe distance at the checkout and, if possible, pay cashless (all articles on the corona virus in NRW at RUHR24 *).

Those who do not comply can expect to have to leave the supermarket. Sounds simple - but are retailers' measures enough? No, finds the online platform Utopia and has selected seven things that everyone should keep in mind when shopping to protect themselves and others from infection with the corona virus .

Corona virus: Shopping with rubber gloves is not sensible

Mistake number one: wear rubber gloves . During the coronavirus pandemic, many people think that they are particularly protected from the Sars-CoV-2 * pathogen with single-use gloves. After all, doctors and nurses would also wear them.

But thought wrong. According to the Bremen-based doctor Dr. Marc Hanefeld, the rubber gloves quickly become porous in everyday life and thus permeable to all kinds of germs . Bacteria and viruses can multiply particularly quickly between plastic and skin. The result: a higher risk of infection than before.

If you really want to protect yourself from pathogens , wash your hands before and after shopping . Touching the face should also be avoided, as should touching the cell phone (be careful of the germ spinner!).

Corona virus: Avoid shopping at the wrong time

Mistake number two: shop in crowded stores. It is particularly crowded in the supermarkets at lunchtime and after work (between 4 and 6 p.m.) . It will be difficult to keep enough distance.

If you want to avoid this, shop in the early morning or late evening. Many stores are open until 10pm these days - you can take advantage of that during the coronavirus pandemic .

Corona virus: Do not comply with hygiene rules yourself

Mistake number three: You don't comply with the hygiene regulations yourself . This happens quickly, especially when you are under stress. But it shouldn't if you want to avoid infections. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) recommends the following rules for shopping :

  • Keep at least 1.50 meters away from others.
  • Do not go shopping if you have respiratory symptoms such as coughing. Better ask others to go shopping for one.
  • Wash hands before and after shopping. This is the only way to permanently kill pathogens .

Corona virus: Put a deposit voucher in your mouth at the cash register

Mistake number four: the wrong handling of deposit receipts. Customers usually only redeem them at the checkout.

And this is where the problem begins: Customers could put the receipt between their teeth while looking for money or their EC card. Supermarket employees are at greater risk of infection as the coronavirus could be passed on to them through saliva.

In addition, customers expose themselves to a possible infection , since pathogens may already be on the deposit voucher . They would end up in your mouth.

Corona virus: Only buy packaged fruit and vegetables

Mistake number five: Only buy fruit and vegetables packaged. The reasoning is obvious: sneezing, coughing or touching food in the supermarket could be contaminated. But the same also applies to packaging.

To date, it is not entirely clear how long the coronavirus can survive on food or packaging *. Infections from fruits and vegetables are not yet known.

What is certain, however, is that packaged food causes significantly more waste. This should be avoided anyway. Anyone who is still afraid to become infected with pathogens must observe the following rules:

  • Wash hands before and after shopping.
  • The same applies to food - among other things, to wash off pesticides.
  • Cook food sufficiently. According to the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture , the risk of infection can be reduced.

Coronavirus: procure hamsters and unnecessary supplies

This error has nothing to do with an increased risk of infection , but should still be avoided. Because in times of the coronavirus pandemic , solidarity is also important.

Many supermarkets have hardly any products such as toilet paper, soap, yeast or flour left. The reason: people make a lot of hamster purchases because of the coronavirus pandemic *. It has long been clear that they are not necessary. "The supply chains are working and we have enough stocks," said the press spokesman for the Federal Association of the German Food Trade.

The good thing: In many supermarkets, products such as toilet paper or yeast may only be sold once per customer and purchase. This ensures that there is enough for everyone. Ahi
