As a measure to curb the coronavirus pandemic , the Oktoberfest will not take place this year. Difficult decision with Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter: The Oktoberfest 2020 must be canceled. The risk is just too high. You can neither keep your distance there nor wear a face mask. Living with Corona means living cautiously until there is a vaccine or medication. #wiesn pic.twitter.com/AMHpQAjIL0

Corona virus: mask requirement in more and more countries in Germany - criticism of the patchwork

In order to curb the corona virus * in Germany, more and more federal states are opting for a corona mask when shopping and in public transport. Several state governments want to seal this or discuss this Tuesday. It was recently announced that a mask requirement should also be introduced in Thuringia because of the coronavirus pandemic *, as government spokesman Günter Kolodziej announced on Monday evening.

So far, there is no uniform line on the obligation to wear a mask * in Germany. The Greens are now demanding "a clear, common line" from the federal government and the states, as party leader Annalena Baerbock said. "I think a bid for a mouth-nose guard in local public transport and when shopping in shops is right," said Baerbock.

A mouthguard requirement was also recently introduced in Saxony-Anhalt . The state government decided on Tuesday morning (April 21, 2020) according to the "Mitteldeutsche Zeitung". Until now, the mouthguard was only "strongly recommended" in shops, buses and trains. The new mouthguard regulation is due to come into force next Thursday (April 23, 2020). The city of Frankfurt is also planning to introduce a mask requirement * for public transport and retail. This should apply from next Monday (April 27th, 2020) at the latest

Coronavirus: Developments for Abitur in the federal states

The federal states also make different decisions in other areas, such as daycare centers , schools or retail stores. Pupils from Berlin recently wanted to postpone the Abitur exams because their learning conditions at home are particularly unfavorable. However, the administrative court in Berlin rejected the request to postpone the school leaving examination. The first written exam is scheduled for Friday (April 24th, 2020). An appeal against the decision can still be lodged with the Higher Administrative Court.

In Hamburg , the Abitur exams under strict hygiene rules started on Tuesday (April 21st, 2020). Because of the Corona crisis, the start of the exams, originally planned for April 16, had been postponed. During the Abitur, a maximum of ten pupils should be allowed to take the exams in one room at the same time.

In Schleswig-Holstein , the Abitur exams started as planned on April 21. The schools for pupils in Saxony should also be open again from April 20, which is why the Abitur exams begin there on April 22.

Abitur in Germany: Because of the corona virus, many exams are postponed

In Lower Saxony , the Abitur exams are expected to begin on May 11, 2020. The state had drawn up a corresponding emergency plan for the Abitur, but Lower Saxony's Minister of Culture Grant Hendrik Tonne (SPD) did not want to rule out a complete cancellation. The examination dates for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania also fall on this date . North Rhine-Westphalia follows on May 12 with the start of the Abitur. Shortly thereafter, the exams in Brandenburg begin on May 13, 2020.

In Baden-Württemberg , the beginning of the school leaving examination is postponed to May 18, 2020. This is due to a decision by the Minister of Culture Susanne Eisenmann (CDU) in consultation with members of the school administration and representatives of parents and students. In Thuringia , the Abitur exams are also scheduled to begin on May 18.

Bavaria has postponed the Abitur exams this year to May 20, 2020. Coronavirus: JU chief demands more power for federal government

As a consequence, Junge Union boss Tilman Kuban called for more power for the federal government: The different easing of the corona measures * in the federal states regarding childcare, shop openings or mandatory masks * now showed that in special times of crisis more competencies would have to be bundled at the federal level, said Kuban on Tuesday. “The decisions about this should then be made by the federal government and the execution and control by the federal states. Everything else unsettles people and leads to distortion of competition. ”
