Placed under reinforced guardianship, treated in the past for psychological disorders, the young man, who will be 21 years old, had recognized his gesture as of his custody, after having himself called the help to the apartment of the victim. He admitted to having stabbed him in the chest and back, explaining that he had a flirtation with the victim as a teenager, before losing sight of him. They had reconnected a few months ago and the young man had recently set up his tent in the garden of his friend who was under guardianship.

“He explained his gesture in a kind of frustration, a loving spite. He would have liked to go further in the relationship when she considered him only as a friend, " said deputy prosecutor Elise Bozzolo on Sunday. The suspect was known to the police for acts of violence, including his mother.

The case brings to at least 21 the number of alleged femicides since the beginning of the year, according to an AFP count. In 2019, AFP identified at least 126 cases of women killed by their partner or ex-partner, an average of one woman every three days.
