Corona crisis: the calm before a possible second wave

The situation in the Corona crisis is stable in the Freising district. This was the conclusion drawn by the head of the clinic and the spokesman for the doctors at a press conference. But it may be “the calm before a second wave,” as Dr. Mark Bardenheuer raised concerns.

The situation in the Corona crisis is stable in the Freising district. This was the conclusion drawn by the head of the clinic and the spokesman for the doctors at a press conference. But it may be “the calm before a second wave,” as Dr. Mark Bardenheuer raised concerns.

District - "A little peace has returned," summarized supply doctor Dr. Mark Bardenheuer at the press conference yesterday afternoon in the district office, the situation in the corona crisis together. But maybe that was "the calm before a second wave," he said. After all, starting Monday, the exit restrictions would be relaxed - you have to wait and see. But with a view to the (general) doctors, he said: "We are well prepared" to be able to cope with an increase in new infected people.

Slight decrease in patients in the hospital

The medical director at the Freising Clinic, Dr. Markus Neumaier. In the hospital, he sees a "slight decrease" in patients. Last Thursday, 35 Corona patients were treated in hospital - ten would be in the intensive care unit, seven of whom would be ventilated. The hospital recorded 22 deaths - only one of them was under the age of 70, but was also "seriously ill".

Six deceased under the age of 70

The new head of the Health Department, Kathrin Mariß-Heinrich, presented the current figures. The District Office (the State Office for Health 913) recorded 884 positive cases. 629 patients have now recovered, 38 patients have died. Six of the deceased were between 60 and 70 years old, "the rest older than 70 years," she said.

With regard to the old people's homes, nursing homes and asylum seekers' accommodation, she said there were no new infections. The worst, as reported, would have been the Kursana domicile in Au, in which 14 deaths were recorded and in which of the 37 residents tested, “20 were still positive”. But there are - as in other facilities, "no new cases," reported Mariss-Heinrich. District Administrator Josef Hauner called this development "gratifying". And also that "only" ten of the more than 1,000 employees in the hospital were infected, shows how high the hygiene standards in the district are.

School arrangements

Florian Plajer, head of the civil engineering department, reported on the arrangements at the schools and the upcoming school start on Monday. For example, hygiene measures are currently being taken at the district schools to protect pupils, teachers and staff. A liquid soap and towel dispenser is available in every toilet for hand hygiene.

The so-called full cleaning, which would normally have taken place every 2.5 days in schools, would now be carried out daily. In other words, not only floors are wiped and wastebasket emptied, but tables, benches, door handles and handrails are also disinfected every day. This is only possible since there will be limited operation starting next Monday. It remains to be seen what happens when all students are back in school.

Starter pack for schools

According to the Ministry of Culture, a mouth-to-nose covering has not been necessary so far, Plajer reported. But the district decided on Wednesday to equip the schools with a starter package, so that all (graduate) students, teachers and staff will be given an operating mask on Monday - as a voluntary service and a one-off thing, so to speak. However, such masks could not be provided for all students returning to school on May 4th and 11th, Plajer emphasized and made it clear: "There will be no follow-up delivery."

No break sales, no canteen opening

As a further protective measure, all schools had been contacted and asked whether the secretariat should be equipped with cut-off wheels. Measures are also taken in schools when it comes to breaks. One is the same for everyone: “The cafeteria and break sales remain closed,” says Plajer, who is convinced that “the district is ready for the start of school next Monday”.

Support for the health department

When determining contact persons, the health department is supported by a "contact tracing team". The government has now made 20 young public employees available to the district who will have their IT workstations with PCs and telephones in the Good Angels secondary school in Freising. By the end of the summer vacation, the school had made rooms available, Plajer emphasized. How long the helpers will be on duty is “not foreseeable”. Important: "Data and health protection is assured," says Plajer.

Relaxed location that gives some air

For Tobias Diepold, the new head of the Office for Security and Order, the situation is "somewhat relaxed, which gives us some air".
