Holzkirchen - Today is a global climate strike. In November, the Fridays For Future local group Holzkirchen moved to the marketplace for this occasion. Because of Corona, the organizers have to rethink. In our conversation, local group leader Caroline Reiter (17) reveals: They will demonstrate again at 6 p.m. Corona-friendly and loud.

Ms. Reiter, is climate change still an issue for the youth of Holzkirchner in times of Corona?
Climate change is still in the minds of young people, but is currently more in the back of the mind. But our goal is that despite Corona, the topic is not forgotten. That's why we're on strike today.
How do you strike during Corona?
We asked the young people to make signs. Today at 6 p.m. we go on strike half an hour in front of the garden fence. We have created a list of songs that we play. And we have published slogans that we call each other. It is about plastic waste and the coal exit, but also the southern bypass. We'll be loud - despite Corona.
What does the local group say about Südspange?
We don't have a final position. We see good arguments on all sides. However, some members wanted to point out the importance of nature conservation in the project. We want to help them with this.
How many participants participate in the demo?
We do not know that, yet. We reach almost 250 people on Instagram, plus WhatsApp groups and word of mouth. Parents will also go on strike again. So many should participate. We'll see how many afterwards: The participants will post pictures on the Internet.
Apart from the demo: How does Corona influence your local group?
We used to meet at school or get to know each other at demos. We were actually only online when we wanted to draw attention to campaigns. This is no longer possible. Now we publish two to three posts a week and have an Instagram representative who trains in online work. We also meet for video conferences once or twice a week. So a lot has changed.

What do you publish on the internet? Is it about local issues or the world?
On the one hand, we try to show the benefits of the corona crisis for the climate: how beautiful a blue sky is without planes! This is how we want to show that the crisis can be an opportunity. It is also about tips for climate and environmentally friendly behavior. That also helps on site.
Keyword chance: Does Corona harm or benefit your local group?
We win more than we lose at the moment. Many young people are bored at home and are more on the Internet. As a result, they also read our posts more frequently. We have new members who became aware of us through Instagram and are now actively involved.
So does Fridays For Future in Holzkirchen move to the Internet?
Nobody can say at the moment what will happen after Corona. One thing is clear: as soon as we are allowed to hold events again, we definitely want to demonstrate regularly. We also want to expand our cooperation with the Miesbach local group and organize joint events. For example, we are considering offering climate camps in the district. Children should learn from them how the climate works and how they can protect it.
So is your website a flash in the pan?
Under no circumstance. For example, we want to show live discussions on YouTube. We also want to invite local politicians. For example, it could be about the southern clasp.
