From Saturday, the first day of Ramadan in Morocco, citizens will be "formally prohibited from traveling outside their home or on the public highway" between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. local time, the Interior Ministry said in this press release. "Local authorities and security services will ensure the application of strict control measures , " adds the text.

Traditionally, during Ramadan, Moroccans go out in crowds into the streets after breaking the fast to go to the mosque, have a coffee or take a walk in the streets. The council of Ulemas, the official religious institution, this week issued a fatwa calling to respect confinement during Ramadan, "the preservation of life against all perils taking precedence from the point of view of Sharia (Islamic law, editor's note ), on any other act, including the meeting for prayers ” .
