Covid-19: elegance contests postponed or canceled

2020-04-24T15:16:30.809Z

NEWS - The health crisis is causing a disruption of the elegance competition agenda.

This is one of the many consequences of the health crisis plaguing the world: events bringing together the public are postponed or canceled. This is how in the world of classic vintage cars, the organizers of elegance contests took divergent decisions. The demonstration at the Villa d'Este which was to be held from May 22 to 24 has been postponed from October 16 to 18. The BMW group which is organizing this event is however awaiting the development of the coronavirus epidemic before confirming these new dates. For their part, the organizers of the fifteenth edition of the “Salon Privé” competition, which was to be held in early September, decided to postpone it by three weeks. The English event was therefore scheduled for the weekend of September 23 to 26.

As for the 70th Pebble Beach elegance competition which was to take place on August 16, it was simply canceled, the organizers finding that the coming of collectors and cars was suffering from too many questions. As a result, the next edition of the largest elegance contest in the world will be held on the weekend of August 15, 2021. The organizers have decided to maintain the themes of 2020: the Pininfarina bodies, the Porsche 917, the Talbot-Lago Grand Sport, the Miller race and the Carrera Panamericana race. As a result of the cancellation of the 2020 competition, the auction house Gooding & Company has already announced that it has given up organizing its sale.
