  • Last year a gang in the Dachau district and in Munich caused mischief.
  • They blew up six cigarette machines.
  • Now the LKA has caught the perpetrators.

District - The Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (LKA) caught a gang of ten from the Dachau district and the west of Munich on Wednesday, accused of having blown up six cigarette vending machines in Dachau, Karlsfeld and Munich from November 1 to 23, 2019 .

In their crimes, the young men between the ages of 15 and 19 blew up the vending machines with self-made explosive devices and took away the cigarettes and cash. The damage to the devices amounts to around 20,000 euros. The LKA could not say yesterday how high the loot is. "Fortunately, no one was injured, despite the enormous dangers for bystanders and perpetrators," said LKA press officer Kevin Perleberg. Some of the machines were completely destroyed.

Vending machine cracker snapped with raid

According to the LKA, after two calls for witnesses and extensive evidence-taking work and intensive investigations, the suspicion against ten people would have increased. In the course of the initial investigation, explosives experts from the LKA had already searched eight objects; the Munich District Court had issued two arrest warrants at the time.

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, the police finally searched five more apartments. “Among other things, crimes such as tubular bodies, chemicals, pyrotechnic objects and other self-made explosive devices were found. Since such do-it-yourself builds generally poses a high risk, the defusers of the Technical Special Group of the LKA were consulted to secure the objects, ”says Perleberg.

Ten gang members arrested and detained

Following the raid on Wednesday, the ten-member gang was arrested. The young men come from Dachau, Pfaffenhofen an der Glonn, Sulzemoos and other places from the west of Munich. Five of them were detained. According to Perleberg, these are the manufacturers of the explosives or the masterminds of the deeds. Five other men, whom the LKA classifies as followers, were released after being interrogated.

The members of the vending machine gang are now accused of causing an explosive explosion, theft and property damage. The further investigations will be carried out by the Munich I public prosecutor and the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office.
