The main demonstration took place in Domzale, ten kilometers north of the capital Ljubljana, but also in dozens of other sites in the country, where staff went out for fifteen minutes to protest their claims. A protester read a text from the Association of Retirement Homes assuring in particular: "We will not remain silent as the authorities, in favor of the pandemic, try to transform retirement homes into low-cost care hospitals" .
The statement added that retirement homes in Slovenia had not been prepared for the pandemic and had been left to fend for themselves. The country has so far managed to limit the spread of the disease, but retirement homes have been severely affected.
As of April 19, residents of retirement homes accounted for 58 of the 80 deaths in the country. The Ministry of Health for its part affirmed that these demonstrations had "political" motivations .
