(CNN Spanish) - In a statement issued by social networks, the governor of Bolívar state, Justo Noguera, reported that in the incidents that occurred this Thursday in Upata, a young man was killed by a shot that a police officer would have carried out.
As reported to CNN by the president of the Chamber of Commerce of the Piar municipality, where Upata is located, the events occurred at a time when store inventories were reduced as a result of the gasoline shortage and the accelerated devaluation of the bolivar.
According to the governor of Bolívar, the official was placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry "for the investigation and confirmation of the fact" while he promised that "justice will be done."
On the other hand, Noguera reported that there are 33 detainees as a result of the disorders.
He added that this Friday a meeting with the mayors of Bolívar state is called.
Venezuela, the country with the most oil reserves in the world, has suffered its production due to mismanagement of resources, a humanitarian crisis and the sanctions imposed by the United States against the questioned President Nicolás Maduro and his allies.
