On Monday, the final classes return to schools after eight weeks - and there is nothing as it was before.

Würmtal - The pupils could dream of their entire career. Now they are about to graduate and then suddenly the time has come: More than 15 students will not be in a class as of Monday. Thank Corona. The new distance rules require smaller class sizes. And not only that. Since the flu wave, there has been a disinfectant dispenser in every toilet at the Kurt Huber High School (KHG) in Graefelfing. In future there will also be one at the entrance to the school, explains director Anita Groß. A lot had to be prepared so that the pupils, who would soon be able to take their final exams at middle, junior high school and high school, could go back to their schools from Monday. "We have created a new room and timetable," says Groß. The students are now sitting at individual tables 1.50 meters away from their neighbors. "Nobody wants a student to get sick now and not be able to graduate from high school."

Large courses are shared

The new concept requires more rooms and more staff. Large courses are shared. Instructors need to work more. Groß does not want to introduce new teachers to high school graduates directly before high school. "We don't yet know how to compensate for the extra work." You have to worry about financial or time compensation, she says. In the corridor and "whenever there is a risk of people walking too close, everyone must wear a mask". This is left up to the students themselves during the lesson. "You can't expect to wear a mask for four to six hours," says Groß. The director admits that many teachers who are older than 60 years teach at the KHG. "They have a certain fear of getting infected." In this respect, it may happen that some masks are worn in the classroom.

No mask requirement, but an urgent recommendation

Manfred Jahreis, director of the Gauting State Real School, says that the students who travel by public transport are wearing a mask anyway. But he also believes that it is unlikely that his students will have to wear a mask in the classroom. "There is no obligation to wear a mask," says Brigitte Schmid-Breining, director of the Planegger Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium (FLG). But: "The district of Munich wants to provide masks, and we will of course issue them and explain what they can do." She strongly recommends that the students wear them.

The students of the FLG will start teaching in a staggered manner so that nobody meets in the aisles if possible. Schmid-Breining has enough rooms and teachers for high school graduates. But: "With the next wave from May 11th, the eleventh graders will come back to school." And then the situation at the grammar schools in the Würmtal becomes more difficult. The high school graduates are only ready on May 19. Both years overlap for a week. "It gets really tight," says Groß.

Schmid-Breining is currently finding out which teachers will be deployed from May 11th. Because teachers who belong to the risk groups do not have to take face-to-face lessons. Pregnant women are prohibited from employment. The number of teachers able to work at school could shrink. "But the Abitur will run," assures Brigitte Schmid-Breining.

Recently , the teachers in the Würmtal were still worried that the Abitur could fail.
