The Minister of Social Development, Daniel Arroyo, announced the payment of an " extraordinary reinforcement" for the beneficiaries of the Food Card to be accredited on Wednesday. It will be $ 4,000 for families with one child and $ 6,000 for families with more than one child.
"Our task is to strengthen families' right to healthy food and sustain income in a critical social situation," Arroyo explained in a statement. And as he details, the objective of the extra payment is "to guarantee access to food for the most vulnerable sectors in the context of the emergency caused by Covid-19".
The announcement comes after the proposal that the leaders of the San Cayetano Triumvirate, which make up social movements such as the Evita Movement and the CTEP, the Classist and Combative Current and Barrios de Pie, among others, brought to the Government.
1,100,000 cards were distributed through public banks until March 20, when the quarantine started. From the mandatory isolation, the Ministry of Social Development made the decision that, while the quarantine lasts, those who did not receive the card will be charged through the accounts of the Universal Child Allowance (AUH), according to the schedule of dates set by Anses.
It was also noted that this initiative adds to the increase in the items for food assistance in school canteens, community canteens and picnic areas; as well as the agreements signed with municipalities and provinces for the purchase of food and cleaning products.
The investment that the Government allocates in the Food Card means monthly $ 1.8 billion in the suburbs; $ 2,800 million in the Buenos Aires province; and $ 7.6 billion in the entire country.
Beyond the reinforcement, the organizations had also called for a special fund for the popular economy. With reassignments of items, which could even reach $ 200 million, they seek employment for informal construction workers or food producers. Who does the card reinforcement reach?
- For families with one child they will receive a bonus of $ 4,000; and those with two or more children will receive an extraordinary boost of $ 6,000.
- On the other hand, those who are recipients but still do not have the card, the amount will be credited along with the payment of the AUH, according to the schedule of dates set by ANSES.
- The Alimentar card is intended for mothers and fathers with children up to 6 years of age who receive the Universal Child Allowance (AUH); pregnant women from the three months they receive the Pregnancy Allowance; and people with disabilities who receive the AUH.
