(CNN) - Kanye West has always coveted the title of "billionaire."
Last year, the rapper and fashion tycoon even suggested that he could legally change his name to "Christian Genius Billionaire Kanye West" for a time.
Now Forbes magazine has given the title to the 42-year-old star, who he estimates has a current net worth of $ 1.3 billion, although he is reportedly still not happy about that.

On Friday, Forbes gave the hip-hop star that name after West shared his financial records after "months of requests."
Forbes journalist Zack O'Malley Greenburg explained that when the magazine featured West on the cover of the magazine last year, he was not labeled a billionaire.

The magazine calculated the value of the artist's assets, including the Yeezy tennis collaboration with Adidas, which Forbes estimated brought him royalties of more than $ 140 million from last year's sales, properties, assets and his record label GOOOD, with a value of at least US $ 90 million.
The final total of $ 1.3 billion, according to the magazine, took into account debts, the "lack of liquidity of assets" and the magazine's tendency to "look at self-evaluations somewhat skeptically."
Forbes reported that West insists its value is $ 3.3 billion, and he texted the magazine to say, "It's $ 3.3 billion since no one at Forbes knows how to count." But the $ 1.3 billion figure still puts him on an exclusive list.
