(CNN Spanish) - The General Directorate of Penal Centers decreed an emergency in the penal centers of El Salvador after 22 homicides registered on Friday, according to figures from the National Civil Police.
El Salvador President Nayib Bukele said he handles intelligence on the existence of planned murder orders from prisons.

The president issued instructions, on Friday night, for the total closure of the gang leaders who are detained.
Bukele wrote in a tweet: “no contact with the outside. The stores will remain closed and all activities will be suspended, until further notice ”.
Authorities carried out a series of operations and hours later the police director, Mauricio Arriaza Chicas, reported the first arrests.
Arriaza assured that the first five captures were made, "we will work tirelessly to bring all these criminals to justice."
For his part, the Attorney General, Raúl Melara, ordered an investigation to determine who would be behind the upswing in violent deaths in a single day, after the Central American country registered a reduction in murders in recent months.
