The corona crisis will continue to occupy the municipalities for a long time, and it is clear that the pandemic will ultimately also represent a major financial burden for the municipalities. The corona crisis will continue to occupy the municipalities for a long time, and it is clear that the pandemic will ultimately also represent a major financial burden for the municipalities. Nevertheless - or precisely because of this - the local council in small Straßlach-Dingharting decided at its last meeting to have the pond in the main town of Straßlach refurbished.

Straßlach-Dingharting - An impressive 190,000 euros were made available to dig deeper into the water surface opposite the church, right next to the maypole, where the popular pond festival takes place every year, to equip it with plants and to make it more beautiful on the banks.

"We are sliding into a review, but it is important that the state continues to invest," Mayor Hans Sienerth (party-free) opened the discussion. At the last meeting in the old composition, which was held in the community center due to Corona, he confessed that it was not yet known how high the losses in income tax would be; nevertheless, it is the task of the public sector to see that “money is in circulation again”. Under the circumstances, it was "sometimes legitimate to take out a loan".

Not everyone on the panel shared his view. Florian Zweckinger (CSU) says, for example, that you should limit yourself to “important things” at the moment, the pond is not one of them. 190,000 euros, which will probably not remain, are far too expensive. "We can wait another year with it." Leonhard Schlickenrieder of the Greens also found: "The costs are far too high." He advocated just prettying up the facilities all around and "not touching the pond for the time being". Herbert Mack (CSU), for whom the whole thing was too expensive, proposed to renovate the pond - and leave the bank area.

Various seating areas are to be created around the pond

Ultimately, those who want to implement the concept of the local landscape designer Wenzel Kampschulte in full will prevail. After the way, the community had already worked with another engineering firm on the matter - but in the end his suggestions were not accepted. Kampschulte wants to raise the pond deeper, then cover it with a film.

At the moment the foundation is still asphalted, but has many cracks. Plants should then, as he explained in the town council, shade the water surface and provide habitat for zooplankton. It is then no longer necessary to circulate the water as intended by the engineering office.

A variety of seating options would be set up around the pond, which is the center of Straßlach. A wet meadow should catch the overflow, a small wooden deck with a view of the church would be built. On the sketches he showed it looked appealing, the councils said. Horst Wagner, FWG: "I like the project very much, I can join in."

Sabine Hüttenkofer of the Greens was also able to do a lot with the concept from which she believed that "specialist knowledge and passion", Lotte Gießler, BB: "The pond needs depth, otherwise it becomes a sewer. We have been doing this for so long, we have to do it. ”The pond restoration was finally approved with four votes against, and work is to begin in autumn. Hoping that everything will be ready by May 2021, which I hope can take place.
