Kiran Giubinto got his mother out of cancer • He decided to contact his father in Italy, just to experience another tragedy

When the officers' graduates stood last Wednesday on the Order 1 base, they surely felt a sense of missing out on their loved ones unable to watch them closely when their rank was revealed, and because of the Corona crisis, they had to settle for viewing through the computer screen. The missed opportunity should have been much greater, as both his parents passed away, but despite the many crises he experienced during his life, his heart filled with a sense of satisfaction and pride.

One of the reasons Kiran (20), who enlisted last summer in the IDF's foreign relations system, is not particularly excited about the Corona's limitations, due to the fact that the situation in his home country, Italy, is much more difficult. "I am still in touch with people in Italy and are constantly updating their case in the country. From what I understand the situation there is very difficult, just as is reflected in the reports, and if there is a crisis here in Israel then it can be doubled by that, "he tells" Today Israel "as someone who knows a thing or two about crises.

He was born in a small village near Lake Como in northern Italy, to an Israeli mother, an alternative to Chinese medicine, and to an Italian father, a carpenter who carved wood, who fell in love, married and moved to the boot country. Four years after he was born, his only sister was born. Jewish community but we made sure to celebrate the holidays of Israel and kept as much as possible to the Jewish tradition. "

When he was 6, he experienced the first crisis of his life when his parents separated and his father left home. "Most of his work was abroad in wood sculpting. Most of the time I did not see him and when you were ten, because we had almost no contact with him and had no supportive family, Mama decided to move back to Israel. "

In Israel, his mother, Ronit, and her two children lived in Jerusalem, first in his grandmother's house and then in a rented house. Kiran says he experienced rapid acclimatization and good integration into the new country until another crisis hit them. "My mother became breast cancer again in Italy and after undergoing chemotherapy she recovered. But in Israel she became ill again and this time found out that she had bone metastases. She decided she was not undergoing chemotherapy again because for her it was an ongoing nightmare and turned to alternative medicine."

In 2015, following personal trauma unrelated to her illness, Ronit was hospitalized for a month and then doctors found that the metastases had also spread to the liver. At this heart she began intensive alternative medicine and even occasionally flew abroad to undergo a series of treatments. His mother's stubborn and total battle with cancer led Kiran to reach the age of 15, that he and his sister should leave home. That I had to do in life. I told her that she was still my mother and I loved her but that we could not continue living with her because she could not support us and care for us. She took it very hard. We moved in with a good friend of her and her family and of course we made sure to visit her several times a week and even slept with her occasionally, but unfortunately our main house was no longer with her. "

In May 2018, a year and a half after doctors predicted she had at most six months to live, Ronit passed away leaving her two children alone. Kiran stood before his high school graduation and pre-military studies, and if his mother's death was not enough, the family he and his sister lived in had experienced a crisis of their own that forced them to look for a new home. Finally, after much effort, he managed to find his little sister a charter family while he was staying in the preparatory and off in friends' homes and distant relatives. In August 2019, he enlisted in the IDF's foreign relations system, which is in charge of military cooperation with foreign countries. One week after he enlisted, he underwent another jolt.

"For recruitment," he recalls, "after not being in contact with my dad for 8 years, I decided to renew the relationship with him, understanding that he was my biological father anyway. He asked me for pictures as a soldier and sent him but I did not receive a response from him. Send me a message on Facebook and let me know that for three days he did not go to work and when they came home they found him unharmed. He suffered cardiac arrest at night and died, which was a major blow to me, especially after deciding to contact him again. I went back two days before ending with a desire to quickly get back to normal, move forward and move on. "

After graduating cum laude and training, he decided to take an officer course he completed last week in preparation for being redeployed in the unit he enlisted. For him, the ongoing crisis has only strengthened his desire to serve as an officer and influence his environment. "People who know me and my past often turn to me for help on all kinds of issues. Over the years, I've found how good I feel when I help others. So, for me, the officer's role will only open me up even more, and I hope that as I've been able to be a figure that helps and influences my sister, Influence and help as many soldiers as possible.
