Farmer in Bichl plans stable for 400 cows: local council against

A farmer's planning application is currently providing plenty to talk about in Bichl.

A farmer's planning application is currently providing plenty to talk about in Bichl.

Bichl– Andreas Mair (“Voglbauer”) wants to build a stable on his area that is much larger than comparable objects in the region and will offer space for around 400 animals. The municipality rejects this, but has no say in the approval. The young farmer, on the other hand, wants to secure the future of his family business.

The request was submitted to the local council at the meeting on Tuesday. According to Mayor Benedikt Pössenbacher, stable 35 is 85 meters tall. According to Pössenbacher, it would be "like a bar structure" because you would have to fill up the area near the Hochbichl for the ten-meter high stable by three to four meters. Further problem areas for the community are lack of fire protection - the water pipe there is not sufficient - and the expected odor nuisance caused by around 400 cows. In addition, there are the necessary manure pits and silo areas that are free of approval. "It will be a huge company," says Pössenbacher. The commercial area is around 250 meters away, the residential area around 350 meters away. The community actually wanted to grow in this northern direction. "Innovation is nice, but it's just too big," said Pössenbacher.

Comparison with discussion about net market

The local council discussed the application and then unanimously rejected it. However, this decision has no effect on the construction project because the farmer has the so-called privilege. The decisive approval authority is the district office. "With regard to the size of a project, the privilege knows no limits," said press spokeswoman Sabine Schmid. Privilege is federal law.

Bichl's second mayor Markus Geißler is an eyesore. At the meeting, he recalled the heated discussions about the net market a few years ago and criticized that the community should not have a say in the area of agriculture. Geißler also thinks the stable in this size is "far too massive". Leonhard Peschl and Helmut Kolbeck made similar comments. “Of course, farmers are under pressure. But 400 cows, maybe even more, are too violent for our village, ”said Kolbeck.

Already on Friday the community and farmer Andreas Mair (25) met for an interview. The young man was very clear in advance and emphasized his willingness to compromise. "I understand the concerns," he said over the phone to the Tölz courier, explaining in detail what made him decide. "I looked at stables all over Germany and thought a lot about the planning."

There are currently around 160 cows and 150 young cattle and some calves on the farm. “Few people know that we already have 300 cattle now,” says Mair. The current stables on the farm are between 20 and 40 years old and no longer meet the requirements. “Today, for example, the walkways are much wider,” says Mair, a trained agricultural master and certified economist.

Farmer wants to optimize operations

The "Voglbauer" is a dairy farm with young cattle rearing and calves. With the new stable, Mair would like to optimize the operational processes on the farm and improve many things. The new barn should be generously sized so that the young and lower-ranking animals could feed and feed in the drinking area undisturbed, explains the young man. Around a quarter of the barn are straw bays reserved for calving, for calves or for sick animals. He wants to keep the pasture system. "All cows have the comfort of going out when they want."

Mair does not want to commit to an exact number of how many animals there will be with the new barn. He thinks about 400. That is about 100 more than now. "This is not so dramatic", also with regard to feed and manure: "Everything is already there." Mair wants to use two of the five stables now as a machine shelter or feed store.

He had also long thought about the height of the new stable. The reason for the landfill is that the cows should be able to manage the drive routes for milking without barriers. If it were to go deeper, it would have to be concreted at an angle or even built steps. This could lead to claw injuries in winter with black ice. In addition, a cow would shy away from the path after a fall.

Right to speak for builders soon in the municipal council?

As for the smells, Mair sees himself far enough from the village. In addition, his building application included a new driveway, so that he could take the shortest route to the B472. "I want a solution that fits everyone," says the young farmer.

Mair followed the session on Tuesday as a listener - and also saw that the councilors still had questions. City councilor Leonhard Peschl would have liked to give Mair the right to speak, but the rules of procedure do not provide for this. In the coming legislative period, Peschl therefore intends to propose that builders be allowed to speak if important questions arise in the committee.
