According to estimates, the number of employees working from home in the corona crisis has risen to up to 25 percent. And if it is up to Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil, the number will probably not return to the pre-pandemic level in the future.

Berlin (dpa) - Federal Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil (SPD) wants to enshrine the right to work from home: "I am working on a new law for a right to home office, which I will present by autumn".

"Anyone who wants to work and who can do so should be able to work from home - even if the corona pandemic is over," said Heil of the "Bild am Sonntag". "You can either switch to home office entirely or only for a day or two a week," Heil said. According to initial cautious estimates, the number of employees in the home office in the Corona crisis rose from 12 to 25 percent of all employees.

With "fair rules" Heil wants to prevent "work eating too much into the private sphere". There is also an end of the day in the home office - "and not only at 10 p.m.". Working from home should be a voluntary option for employees. "We want to enable more home offices, but not to force them," said Heil.

Vice Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) also praised the advantages of working from home. "The past few weeks have shown how much is possible in the home office - this is a real achievement that we should not fall behind," said the finance minister to "Bild am Sonntag".
