A spokesman for Russian President Dmitry Peskov confirmed today that Russia is fully capable of bearing the effects of the current oil price decline.
"Yes, Russia will be able to withstand the decline in oil prices, given that it has a good reserve called a safety pillow," Piskov was quoted by Tass news agency as saying in an interview with Russia 1 Channel.
However, he warned that this reserve should be used efficiently and said, "At the same time, we must not give in to the popular mood, such as calls to spend money in one go, fill the economy with money, etc."
Earlier, Russian Finance Minister Anton Silwanov announced that Russia intends to spend 26,813 billion dollars from the National Welfare Fund this year in order to compensate for the shortage in gas and oil resources.
