Breathe deeply in the retail sector: On Monday, shops with up to 800 square meters of retail space were allowed to reopen. But do the customers accept the offer? Or is there a yawning emptiness in the shops? A stroll through the Wolfratshauser and Geretsried business world.

Breathe deeply in the retail sector: On Monday, shops with up to 800 square meters of retail space were allowed to reopen. But do the customers accept the offer? Or is there a yawning emptiness in the shops? A stroll through the Wolfratshauser and Geretsried business world.

Wolfratshausen / Geretsried - Armed with green face mask, Georg Meiller stands behind the cash register in his shoe store in Wolfratshausen and packs the newly acquired sneakers for a customer. Posters in the shop windows indicate the safety rules. Disinfectant is also available. "There's already something going on here for the first day," says Meiller. The retailer knows that many children grew out of their shoes during the Corona mandatory break. That's exactly why Martina Klostermeier came. “The most important thing for me today was that I buy shoes for my children,” says the high-altitude trainer, while paying at Meiller. Daughter Lisa (4) likes her new black-pink treads so much that she slips in immediately.

Corona forced break: children grew out of shoes

A look at the door: Although the mask requirement only applies in shops, almost all passers-by wear face masks on the sub-market. An unusual picture. Sabine Pflügler protects herself with a floral variant. With the shopping basket on her arm, she is on her way to the Rupprecht bookshop. The reason: school reading for her three children, explains Pflügler and adjusts her mask. "Afterwards I take a few flowers with me from the Holzer nursery for my garden," she says with a wink.

Disinfectants and facial tissues for customers

A few meters further, in the "Moda" clothing store: Here, a black standing table with disinfectants and facial tissues welcomes customers. The shop is empty except for an older lady who is browsing through reduced items. Nevertheless, managing director Ebru Mutlu is satisfied: "I am just happy that I can finally open again."

Her eyes scan the skirts, pants and blouses. She hadn't expected a big rush anyway. "Many are still afraid of infection. In addition, some people lack money because of short-time work, ”explains Mutlu. "It all takes some time."

"I'm just happy that I can finally open again"

A slight smell of disinfectant hangs in the air in the Osiander bookshop in Geretsried. The bottle is right at the checkout. Behind it, protected by a pane of plexiglass, branch manager Sarah Ulbrich is waiting for customers. “We had a lot going on today,” she reports. Then the shop bell jingles: Christina Wegele comes in and looks around helplessly. "Can I help you?" Asks Ulbrich.

The Geretsriederin nods gratefully. She is looking for a book to make ice cream herself. “Now I have a lot of time to try something new. That's why I bought an ice cream maker, ”says Wegele proudly. The desired book must be ordered. "No problem, I'll be back tomorrow," calls the Geretsriederin and says goodbye.

safety first

With its 675 square meters, the baby paradise on Jeschkenstrasse is also open again. "I opened the shop at 9:00 a.m., less than two minutes later the first customers were there," says boss Karin Macher. Usually there are currently 30 people in the shop. “But we limited ourselves to three families or five individuals. Many customers are pregnant, so safety simply comes first, ”emphasizes Macher as she sorts up baby hats.

At the same time, Ellen Langhammer leaves the store satisfied with a voucher. "I urgently needed a gift for a newborn who was born on Friday," she says. She is not afraid of being infected while shopping. "I don't hug anyone and keep my distance," explains Langhammer, gets into her red VW bus and drives off.

Mouthguards have been mandatory in Bavaria since Monday. Our newspaper looked around the local shops - an overview of pharmacies, drugstores and supermarkets.
